Autumn Upon Us

- May
There are some lovely colours in the garden right now thanks to this shifting Autumn weather. A little bit more wind and we might even have more leaves falling on the ground.
Once they start falling it is Frans’ job to get as many in the compost heap as possible because they are a good source of nutrients. Any leftovers we will use in the garden itself as over time they form a great weed suppressant and feed the wildlife underneath.
At the moment we are putting the garden slowly but steadily into winter mode. This means that any summer growth will be removed and we will begin clearing up any excess undergrowth so we can have a good look at how the garden is progressing.
Our pond is a good example. After such a dry summer and an abundance of flowers in the form of Cannas, irises and other pond loving shrubs, we have had to trim it down so that everything has a chance to rest before the new season arrives.
Looking at the water level in the pond we can see that it has been a real hot summer and a dry autumn. It will take some rainy days to fill that up again.
In the meantime, enjoy the beautiful autumn colours!
