Truly Monarch

What would life be like if you could eat everyday until you are full to bursting and at then suddenly become light enough to just fly away?

That is what I am observing in the garden this month. The swan plants which I grew in the tunnel house from September onwards have been planted outdoors in different locations in the gardens. We picked a variety of spots to plant, a few in the front garden, the spa garden and the waterfall garden, as well as couple around the pond area.

It is amazing how many Monarch butterflies are visiting the garden at the moment thanks to these swan plants. I have some lovely Echinacea flowers growing close to the swan plants and it seems that these are proving irresistible for the butterflies to visit.

The caterpillars on the swan plants are growing by the day and food is getting scarce. But that’s no surprise considering these very hungry little (did I say little?) monsters are eating 24/7.
