Spring in Full Bloom

In life we all get tested at some point and for nature there is no exception.
We had some severe gale winds last week and, while observing the trees and shrubs, it was clear that the hardy ones had no trouble standing the test of time. Others unfortunately had to take a bow and fall over.
One such victim was the white pine we had in the native bush area. With it’s shallow root system it could not manage to stay upright and collapsed.
Trees like the large oak we have in the front garden survived without a scratch and is still standing tall and proud.
The garden is in full activity this month. Lots of lovely blossoms and a real sense that birds are working hard to bring up their young ones as best they can. There’s a flutter of activity with all the birds competing for nectar.
The Kowhai trees are in full flower and it is a delight to see the tui’s coming every other hour to feed on them. With their beautiful call it is a real treat to sit outside with a cuppa and listen to them sing.
Also the clematis is starting to drape itself around the pergola and let’s not forget the lovely maple tree in all it’s colourful splendor.
The Peruvian lilies are in full flower and the viburnum lets off a sweet perfume when the sun begins to set. A perfect end to a perfect day.
