Time for a Trim

Getting out the chainsaw

Today we took a rest after a couple of busy days in the garden. I think a nice wet day is a good excuse to be writing this!

It has definitely been an eventful week. Frans and I decided to begin work on the front garden because the wintertime really is the perfect time to start giving the shrubs and trees a “haircut” as we call it. So we oiled the garden gear, warmed up the chainsaw and off we went.

The result can be seen instantly and that is one of the main reasons I like to work in the winter time. Everything you do now will have a great effect on what the shrubs and trees look like in the summer

For some trees it turned out to be quite a thorough “haircut” (brought back memories of cutting the children’s hair when they were young – unfortunate but necessary).

As a result, we’re still clearing away the aftermath: huge piles of branches and sticks lying about the lawn.

Piles of branches

Tomorrow it’ll be time to launch into the second stage of making the garden look nice.

Stay tuned and soon we’ll be sure to upload some photos of the finished product (unlike when I cut the children’s hair and they could only be seen with their beanies for a long time afterwards).
