New Beginnings

Well this is the first blog and it is an important one. A lot of good things have happened over the past two months. My husband Frans and I have finally made the move to go rural and are now the proud new owners of Thyme Out. What a beautiful house and garden! We feel so blessed to wake up to the lovely sound of the tui and the bellbird coming from our native forest.

Freshening up the new rooms

We have freshened up the house’s three bedrooms for the B&B but also on the off chance that one of our children decides to stay over at our place (lucky them!). No doubt with five grown children it’s only natural that we’ll end up with the occasional one staying over for a night or two!

At the moment the garden is resting and we are using this time to wander through the garden and create a mental picture of how to best work through the tasks ahead.

It is definitely time to hunt down the pruning shear in the garden shed and get a start on the roses. Some of the trees could also do with a bit of pruning before the first leaves begin to appear again.

Our tamarillos

One tree that doesn’t need any help is our tamarillo tree. We’ve certainly been lucky enough to enjoy our fair share of juicy tamarillos this season.

Despite having reached the shortest day of the year, I’ve already noticed some spring bulbs making their way up through the frosty soil. A couple more weeks and we might even have the first signs of flowers coming through!
